Strategic Intent
The India H2 Alliance is an industry coalition of global and Indian companies committed to the creation of a hydrogen value-chain and reduce carbon emissions across the industrial and transport value-chain. IH2A collaborates with private sector partners, the government and the public to ensure that costs of hydrogen production are brought down, a local supply chain for hydrogen and related applications grows and India is able to achieve its net-zero carbon ambitions by developing a hydrogen economy that complements its national renewable energy and EV/battery-technology plans, to meet India NetZero ambitions and its commitment as per the Paris Agreement.
IH2A is steadfast in its commitment to formulating a comprehensive national Hydrogen Commercialisation roadmap intricately aligned with India's broader renewable energy, electrification and NetZero plans to reduce carbon emission as per the Paris Agreement. By integrating hydrogen into these strategic carbon reduction frameworks, IH2A seeks to play a pivotal role in advancing India's energy transition goals, promoting climate resilience, and realizing a net-zero carbon pathways.
Governance
Member-driven coalition
IH2A is a member-driven coalition, without a legal entity, led by a Steering Group and Associate members, including Reliance Industries Limited, Aramco, Sumitomo, JSW Group, JSPL, Hero Future Energies, Godawari Power and Ispat, HSBC, Trilegal, and others working towards commercialization of green hydrogen in India.
Open platform
Application for IH2A membership is open to all parties. Final decision on membership is made by the Steering Group, based on alignment of prospective members with the stated strategic intent. Prospective members must agree to accept the IH2A governance charter as a necessary condition for membership. The IH2A governance charter details out compliance, ethical, IP protection and competition-related policies and principles that is required to be followed by all members during conduct of IH2A matters.
Diverse expertise
IH2A Steering Group may invite energy experts, institutions and public agencies that contribute hydrogen-related expertise to the Work Groups, to join IH2A as ‘Partner Organisation’. Participation as ‘Partner Organisation’ is by invitation only and at the discretion of the IH2A Steering Committee.
Decisive actions
The IH2A Secretariat acts as the planning and execution arm of IH2A, and on behalf of the Steering Group. The eight-member Secretariat is run by FTI Consulting. By advocating for these key measures, IH2A demonstrates its commitment to accelerating carbon emission reduction plans and building a NetZero pathway for the country.

Upendra Tripathi
Honorary Global Advisor, IH2A
Bio – Recipient of Indian Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Mr. Upendra Tripathy is the founding Director General of the International Solar Alliance. He was able to use 42 years of diverse experience across related sectors to transform India’s renewable energy landscape. His leadership and innovative thinking have shaped policies and institutions, driving progress in sustainable energy, governance, and climate justice.
He was also the former Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (2014-2016), who put MNRE in a different orbit with new ideas such as the 1st RE-INVEST, 175 GW of RE by 2022, Association of Renewable Energy Agencies of the States (AREAS, 2015), Training of 57000 Solar Mechanics (Suryamitras), World Solar Museum, World Solar Bank, the Renewable Energy University and made outstanding contribution towards planning and projectization of 175 GW target. He had the privilege to play a unique and important role in the transformation of the RE Sector in India, post 2014, under the dynamic leadership of PM Modi and Minister Piyush Goyal.

Membership
IH2A has a three-tier membership structure (below) to facilitate collaboration between industry players through the IH2A workgroups and the Steering Group.
